In our world at least, time is the instrument of being, space its realm. In time we move in one direction only, forward, at pretty much one speed, uniquely differing from the three spatial dimensions, wherein we can control direction and speed. Time has three basic elements— past, present, and future.

Past is here represented by the triangle, solid, history unchanging and unchangeable. Present is the circle, a zero, the length of no time, just change in passing. Future is shown by the heart, a hopeful sign of potential.
