Freudian ~ Id, Ego, Super-ego

Faith Symbol Main Page
According to Sigmund Freud, the id, ego, and super-ego are the three parts of the psyche, or functions of the mind. The id (das Es) corresponds to raw instinct, the pleasure principle; the ego (das Ich) to organized reality, reason, or common sense; and the super-ego (das Über-Ich) to conscience or morality, and spiritual goals.

The triangle’s elemental shape is evocative of instinct, or id. The circle, suggestive of cycles, corresponds to worldly existence and the symmetry of reason, or ego. The heart shape is representative of higher consciousness or morals— super-ego.
